INTERACTIVE WHITEBOARD

Interactive White Board (IWB) is one the important tools that used to teach students nowadays. It makes the teaching and learning process become more interesting and enjoyable. I think all teachers should know how to use the IWB in the teaching and learning process. I am sure that most students will be willingly participated in all activities conducted in the classroom if teachers are using this in their teaching.
During the first class that is conducted by instructor, Miss Raja Aimi, she introduced me to the Interactive White Board (IWB). She explains about the function of the IWB and how to use it. After that, each group have the opportunity to come in front and used it to make sure we are able to used it for the next presentation based on problem based learning that will given for the next class. It was difficult for me because I was not really familiar with this device because it is the first time I use it. I keep practicing using IWB before and after class lecture. I have improved myself using the tools day by day. Learning on how to use the IWB is very interesting. I really enjoyed exploring all the applications that available.


Digital technology has a key role to play in today’s classrooms to support teaching and learning. Teachers need the confidence to introduce a wide range of tools to their portfolio. IWBs have a key role to play in 21st century schools to support teaching, learning, administration and management and as a result all staff needs to be confident users of a wide range of resources. All kinds of technology are moving at a faster pace than we can keep up. Therefore, teachers need to regularly update their knowledge, skills and pedagogy. All educators need to have relevant skills to ensure they optimize the benefits of an interactive whiteboard in their classroom.




Using an IWB students and teachers can go to the board and make annotations on it. On an IWB students and teachers can drag objects around like text, pictures and shapes to match ideas and point out solutions. Using an IWB students and teachers can drag scenes out of a video and have them pasted on the board for later discussion. 








Using an IWB the teacher can stand at the board interacting with the content and at the same time look the students in the eye ready to react to any question or doubt. Could the teacher do the same if she was sitting at her desk in front of the computer screen? Maybe, but it would not be the same.

All along while using the gadget, I was really enjoyed to use it. Even sometimes it's quite difficult to control, but it's fun. For my opinion, using the IWB can help teacher to attract the students to involve in teaching and learning session and make them enjoy the learning. Educators should develop IWB skills to provide students with the fantastic educational opportunities that IWBs bring to the teaching and learning process. 


Not all the schools in Malaysia have this IWB in their classroom. This might be due to the high cost. Thus, it might be very hard for us to apply all the knowledge about IWB that we gained in this course. Hopefully one day all schools will have IWB in their classroom so that we can use it and make our teaching and learning session more interesting and interactive in order to attract student’s interest toward the topic that are going to be discussed in the lesson.

Plus, the usage of the IWB can gives teacher to present more interesting slide which is better than using the PowerPoint.
